About Us

HSHC is an independent, non-profit, limited admission animal rescue with a No-Kill policy.
We are not affiliated with any other organization or the Humane Society of the United States. The term “humane society” means that we advocate the humane treatment of animals. We work in partnership with Harris County Animal Control and other regional shelters toward achieving a No-Kill community. We do not receive any city, state, or federal funding. The HSHC exists because of the donations and support of our community and the steadfast dedication of our hardworking staff and volunteers.
HSHC cannot admit all homeless dogs and cats in our community because we do not have the space to do so. However, the animals in our care live here as long as it takes to find a home. HSHC does not euthanize any animal for behavior, space, or time. Euthanasia is performed only when medically necessitated at the advice of a veterinarian.
The Humane Society of Harris County opposes breed discrimination and believes in the humane, fair, and equal treatment of all animals.
